5 Reasons Why Your Intentions Haven't Manifested…Yet!
At the start of each new year, each new month or every New Moon, you've probably tried to set intentions as a way to manifest all of the amazing things you currently want - a career that makes you feel fulfilled and purposeful, a loving and committed relationship, a network of soulful friendships, an amazing house where you can walk to shops and restaurants, an amazing vacation on the coast of France…am I missing anything?
And if you're anything like most people, each month that you set these intentions and then go another 30 days without anything actually coming true from your list, you get super bummed out and annoyed that all this spiritual, woo-woo, manifestation stuff must just be silly and a worthless scam.
If that experience sounds familiar, I want to share 5 of the most common mistakes I see people making when setting new intentions and why yours haven't actually manifested…yet. 1. YOU'RE ACTUALLY SETTING A GOAL - NOT AN INTENTION - WITH A TANGIBLE MEASURE OF SUCCESS.
This is by far, the common mistake in intention setting I see. Goals and intentions are not the same. Goals are centered around action and what you want to DO; intentions are about ENERGY and how you want to BE.
Because of this, intentions are more easily measured subjectively - it's more of a feeling and state of being. So all that advice around setting S.M.A.R.T. goals does not apply here, and might actually be what is holding you back.
2. ONCE YOU SEE EVIDENCE OF YOUR INTENTION NOT BEING MET, YOUR BELIEF FALTERS
Our conscious and subconscious beliefs play such a huge role in the intention setting and manifestation process. SO MANY times, people convince themselves consciously that they really, truly believe they are worthy of receiving what they want. But down in their subconscious, they’ve still got a million reasons why it can't work out for them, secretly sabotaging their efforts.
In my Intention Setting Workshop, I actually go into some practices (that you probably haven't heard before) to work on rewiring these limiting patterns so that you can better align your beliefs with your intentions and actions.
3. YOU CREATE AND BELIEVE IN STORIES AROUND WHY YOU CAN'T HAVE THE END RESULT
This one goes hand-in-hand with the one listed above - there's ultimately still something in your subconscious that is telling you why you can't have it or why it doesn't make sense for you.
Maybe your intention is to receive and attract money easily and effortlessly. But this goes against everything you've been taught and that has modeled to you since before you were even born - everyone in your family has struggled and hustled to make money, so why should you be any different? Or maybe you subconsciously believe that if you are the first one in your family to easily make money, you'll be betraying your parents by disowning their ideals of hard work and sacrifice.
The ways in which we were taught to see the world as we were growing up are often the ways we still see the world today. Until we can bring our awareness to the fact that we're actually wearing an outdated set of gray-filtered glasses, we can't yet remove those glasses and start to see the world through new eyes.
4. YOU'RE OVERLY ATTACHED TO THE OUTCOME
This is probably one of the hardest things to do when it comes to intention setting and manifestation: Releasing your attachment to the outcome. How do we even do that, you ask?
From my own experience, I've learned that whenever I'm feeling overly attached to an intention or manifestation going a certain way, it's because I don't actually feel worthy of having it on some level. In other words, attachment = low self-worth in some way, shape or form.
This is one of the areas that I'm going to really dig into in my workshop, because it's the one that people constantly get the most stuck on. I'll be sharing what this whole concept of attachment = low self-worth even means, and the two questions I ask myself to identify and clear out any stories or blocks getting in my way of manifestation.
5. YOU'RE LETTING YOUR EMOTIONS RULE YOU, INSTEAD OF RULING YOUR EMOTIONS
Ah, emotions! We've been trained since we were little to not express the tough ones, to fear the heavy ones, and to only chase after the 'happy' ones. But when we judge our emotions as being 'good' or 'bad,' 'right' or 'wrong,' we often shut down our ability to fully feel and move through them, and our emotions end up holding immense power over us.
I believe that emotions are meant to serve as messengers for us, telling us where we need to place our attention, what still needs healing within us and what our bodies and souls need to move forward. When we view emotions as messengers, we can release their grip over our identities, and we can also put them to work on our behalf. When we adopt this perspective, we can consciously enter specific emotional states to help us manifest our intentions.
